Music of Vietnamese is old and traditional music with combination of the music comes form the influences of strangers, or better said foreign people who came to this country and native organic music that belongs to the people who are leaving on this regions. So, if you back into the past you can see that most influences comes from the people and music of the Champa, but also this music is very similar to the music of the people who came from the Japan and Mongolian people, especially when it is about classical music.
The most important role plays folk music, especially if you keep in mind that this music is very traditional music with elements of the new, modern music. But, there are more of the forms for the folk music, so there are: quan ho, hat chau van, nhac dan toc cai bien, ca tru and ho form. If you look at the names of each of these forms you can se how much this are remember on the Japans but also and Mongol countries. So, that is the reason and also, way of influences on the Vietnamese culture,, especially music.
Still, there is not only folk music as the only genre into the Vietnamese music, there are also and other, modern, genres of the music, which is called as Tan nhac, whch actually means modern music. This genre of modern music was developed into the 1930s with most influences from the countries from west, especially with their instruments and performances. So, there are few modern genre’s song writers and composers of the Vietnamese music and they are: Die Minh Tuyen, Pham Duy, Thanh Tung, Van Cao and Trinh Cong Son. Songs are divided on the more points, so there are: folk songs, heart songs, spiritual songs, profane songs, resistance songs, children’s songs and refugees songs. These songs are singing with lots of love and joys.
There are lots of instruments which are in suing of the Vietnamese music. But, as well as each country has their own traditional instruments and Vietnam has traditional instruments in using. So, traditional instruments are: the dan bau is instrument which is dating from the 7th century and belongs to the group of the string instruments. There are also and other instruments in use, such as: dan nguyet, dan nhi, dan sen, dan tem, dan tam thap luc, dan tranh, the dan ty ba, ken bau, trung and many others instruments which are connected with the modern life and music.
